CopperCube is an editor for creating 3D games and 3D websites, as windows or Mac OS Apps, as Flash or WebGL websites, or Android apps. It is possible to import or create 3D models, set camera controllers, materials, behaviors, click 'publish' and the game app is ready, without programming.

But it is of course also possible to use CopperCube's integrated scripting API. Using JavaScript, own Actions and Behaviors can be created, and share them freely with others, or even run any JavaScript code on-the-fly, using the Execute JavaScript action. Also, on the Flash target, it is possible to use ActionScript 3 additionally.

For rendering 3D, CopperCube supports OpenGL, Direct3D, WebGL and Stage3D. It includes highly optimized renderers, written in each native platform (in Java, ActionScript, JavaScript or C++), supports massive particle systems, realtime skeletal animation, precalculated lightmaps, normal maps, hardware 3D sound, and much more.

We are currently working on the next major release of our game engine CopperCube, version 5. All the major features are already implemented, they just needs a few tweaking here and there, as well as testing and bug fixing. This week, work was done on:

  • improved light mapper
  • character animation
  • AI refinements

There is a new demo available on the website, showing the features in action. It is available as WebGL and as Flash, so it can be run directly on the website:

Additionally, last week, we also released a demo of one of the new features also to be included in the upcoming release: Terrain rendering. You can try out the WebGL demo here:

It works well and fast, even on older hardware. This is especially surprising, if you think about that WebGL is completely run in JavaScript, in the browser.

I'm liking this, it looks like cube engine but with alot more viusally simplified stuff.. you should perhaps allow a programming option for anyone out there.. also lightmaps are suitable for android and ios games, but perhaps a real time hdr lighting/deferred rending option should be propagated?
