This program fixes save games which have been affected by FoC's unit selection bug. THIS DOES NOT MEAN IT FIXES SAVES THAT CRASH.
After a certain amount of time in a Galactic Conquest, you may have experienced a bug where you lose the ability to select and control your units. This program can be used to fix any save files which have been affected by that issue. We've only been able to test it with a small sample size (although its worked fine so far), so if you encounter any issues we've missed please report them so we can try to fix them. Right now, we're aware of a potential issue with gold version saves where save names don't show up properly in the last, although everything else still functions; we're looking into this.This can be used with save games from Empire at War, Thrawn's Revenge, or any other EaW mod you may experience the problem with.

Considering this is a problem with the base game and therefore impacts all mods, anyone else can feel free to distribute this with their own mods as well, though we ask that credit be given to the creators.

If you mean it's the .rar archive that you cannot open, then WinRAR would be 1st choice...

When the saved games show up, they are all in Chinese. I have no idea which save game is which. Is there a way to fix this?
I had the same problem, turns out I had specified the wrong version of the game when it asks you to select your game version. Worked fine when I selected the right one! Hope that helps.

How do I use this drefreezer?
to use the de freezer choose the save file you want to de freeze usually the latest one click defreeze it will then do its thing and you are good to go

You can put the DeFreezer anywhere you want.
It doesn't need a specific location.
Anyone come across an issue where they go to patch the save game file and none of the save files are even there?
I have the GOG version of the game, which I'm guessing is the retail version and not the Steam one and I went to Users/(Name)/Saved Games where everyone said it would be and there's nothing there. I did a Windows search for some of the names of the save files but that didn't turn anything up.
So where are they? I can save and load games, so they're getting put somewhere, just have no idea where.
Stinks cuz I was almost done conquering all 91 planets and now I can't continue.
Nevermind, just found it. It was in Users/(Name)/AppData/Roaming/Petroglyph for those having the same problem. Patching now.

For those that run into this bug often: Usually the best way to avoid this bug is to avoid dragging troops directly from the ground on one planet to a different planet. Drag those troops to space before moving them, and you should rarely if ever see this bug again.
Have downloaded defreezer v2, but can't get it to run, even after using winrar. I've extracted to the desktop, getting the file and the changelog. I try to run the file and get nothing. Any ideas?
Is defreezer v2 supported by XP? Or is there a hotfix?
Make sure you have .NET Framework 4 installed

I defreezed my save but nothing has changed, I still cant select more than 30 units...
The Defreezer won't allow you to select more units. There is a bug in EaW/FoC that prevents you from selecting ANY units at all and it will fix that bug.

It doesn't matter where you put it. Just run it and find your saved games and let it do its thing.

I used the defreezer on my RaW save now the save crashes every time I try to load it. I can use the auto-save (which is all units frozen) but even if I create a new save from the auto-save and defreeze it, it still crashes...
A Trojan gets in everytime it downloads! BE WARNED THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THIS DOWNLOAD!!!!

Is there a way to revert the save back? Now I can't even open the save.
Okay so when I download this mod I can't open it unless i use note pad and when i put it in the game itself nothing happens. I know I am using it wrong but this isn't much here to go on.
You're not meant to put it in the game. Extract the .rar and inside is an exe you run exactly how you'd open any other program in windows. There's not really much more instruction we can give you, it's just opening a program, unless you don't know how to extract.rars, in which case get 7zip ( 7-zip.org )

For some reason I cannot use the patch correctly, I move the patch folder and it goes in there, but the mod doesn't 'unfreeze' itself....I don't understand. Could someone help?
It's not a patch, it's a tool/program on its own. You open the savefile with this utility and then click "defreeze."We can't patch it out of the game because it's a hardcoded issue with the game itself.
It will probably work for both, EaW and FoC, although we only tested it with FoC.
There is no (practical) way of undoing the defreezing process.
I suggest to make a copy of the savegame file before defreezing it. Never defreeze a file that was saved while in a tactical battle (land or space), though!
This isn't a mod nor a patch, it's a tool to reverse a certain bug of the game. Just extract the file(s), execute the .exe, choose the savegame file you wish to defreeze and defreeze it.

This is a noob question but I'm not good with this. Where are the campaign saves for foc? I play this on steam by the way.
OK so I was using the defreezer and I went to Users/Me/Petroglyph/Foc/saves and I found the save games that I needed, but the defreezer didn't take them and it didn't work. So then I hear so people say you have to go to Users/Me/Appdata/Roaming/Petroglyph/Foc/saves so I did that and found some old saves. The defreezer did work on them but they were save games that couldn't be played in game. I really don't understand this and I hope some can help me with this.
