This long-awaited release of FX is the first installment in the 2.x series. FX 2.0 comes with a major graphic overhaul (new HQ textures) for numerous units, in-game Homeworld media player (customize your BGM) and a completely revamped technology / researching system. Other notable features include new animations, fx, abilities and updated U.I. For more info seek out the preliminary patch notes here.

[Installation]
*Note: The installation is in Chinese.
- Download the file and run .exe found inside.
- Just keep on clicking the "next" (->) button, paying attention at the following:
- In the second window (this is where you will install FX to), select your \Homeworld2 folder (\Sierra\Homeworld2). This location may be selected by default.
- In the fourth window (this is the name of the FX shortcut & its settings), you may see 'FX 1.88' or similar in the text area by default. CHANGE this to:
Sierra\Homeworld2\FX MOD 2.0
(as seen in the screenshot below)
- After the overview window, select 'next'.
- A driverconfig.lua error may trigger during the installation. If it does, just hit 'retry' and the installation will continue.
[Shortcut / Custom parameters (Optional)]
- Locate the FX MOD 2.0 shortcut in your Sierra\Homeworld2 directory.
- Drag/drop or copy/paste to your desktop if desired.
- Add any desired custom parameters such as screen resolution, refresh rate, etc in the TARGET field. You can find the supported parameters for HW2 here: Hw2wiki.net
Example (TARGET field):
E:\Sierra\Homeworld2\Bin\Release\Homeworld2.exe -mod FX2.1.big -locale FXMODLANG -w 1920 -h 1080 -refresh <75>
This sets a 1920x1080 screen resolution and a refresh rate of 75 Hz.

That completely depends on whether we are able to get someone who can translate the whole thing from Chinese to English, as stated in the news post.
You can speed up the English release by spreading the word.
@WildHeart|GENESIS| guess what. I offered my translation service to someone on FB and, this is good... you know what he replied? nothing. absolutely nothing. just a "SEEN". 0% serious.
Fortunately there are other teams who appreciate my work and time.
The reason I said that on FB is just to let you guys know this sooner. I'm only a new member of 9CCN and apparently don't have that right to give you an exact answer, so then I just show other members your offer. They didn't say anything so I didn't, too. Sorry for no responding.
Misunderstandings happen; when they do, it is imperative to not jump the gun but instead consider the possibilities.
Please keep in mind that it is often a bit hard to establish a communication with 9CCN, be it because of a language barrier, timezones, or other factors.
It was [dreadnought9ccn] who specifically asked for a translator, and gave us an email address to reach him on, as you have seen. Contacting him on said email has the best chances of getting directly to the guy who asked for it.
If you contact 9CCN through another method, your message will end up at other 9CCN members who are not yet aware of the fact that they are looking for a translator. After all, it is dreadnought9ccn's request and he posted it on here yesterday, for the first time.
Thus, the message is passed on.
Some don't know about dreadnought9ccn looking for a translators and others, as you have seen below, are aware of his project but don't have the authority to reply.
In other words, they are very serious about it. It's just that attempting to reaching the guys you need @9CCN in ways other than specified will give all sorts of complications because communication is not optimal...not even within the team itself.
If you don't want to email him, you could opt for sending a message to [dreadnought9ccn] on ModDB.

I'm actually curious, if the team is in a bad way of communication, how does anything get done effectively?
Surely it would make sense that every member of the team would know everything? Roughly speaking, of course. Or, at least, wouldn't it be a priority to set up communication in a stable manner? Even if it's just a single chat room in TeamSpeak 3 or some other program/webpage.

The thing is i'm very curious, and also when i see an opportunity i just say 'hey, i can help with this', and i do that to learn, i see it as a learning opportunity, the thing i said about 0% serious wasn't truth, actually i'm the one 0% serious, and i love it haha; plus everyone says i'm weird, well i'm not gonna write my story here, thanks for your replies, i'll try to contact 'dreadnought9ccn' but, i want to have something ready first, thank god he or the team decided to put the languages in a different file otherwise it'd be a mess, personally... OMFG TRANSLATION!
i have a question. so i have downloaded this thing from pretty much every mirror that was posted and everytime the file is finished, all i get is this file that i cant open... its just blank, wat am i doing wrong? am i using the wrong program to open it? i thought winrar was enough but it just doesnt work...
If WinRAR won't work (which it should) I suggest using WinZIP or 7-zip to open the file.
I also recommend downloading the latest release 2.1 instead of 2.0
oddly enough, its the same with 2.1.
Are you using a Mac operating system by any chance? Those cannot open .exe files.
If you are a Mac user, there is not much we can do -- the FXmod is simply not supported on Mac operating systems. Compressing the mod related files into a .zip archive and having you do a manual installation of the mod is no solution either, seeing as the mod uses several features (eg. animated / 'spash' main menu) that are not supported on this operating system as well. The FXmod was primarily designed for use on Windows systems.
Your best bet would be doing a quick Google search for a way(s) to use Windows software on a Mac.
If you are not a Mac user, the file may take a few minutes to 'verify' by your computer after the download is finished. Wait 10 minutes and then try opening it again.
