CSS SCI FI 3: Hardwired is a modification for Source featuring 42 non-linear, goal-oriented single-player missions. Requirements: Counter-Strike: Source and the Source SDK base (free with CS:S). This file is the fully-patched, final version and includes all of the latest fixes and improvements, but requires the current map patch (see downloads).

  • Please note: this file requires the Map Patch. Download and install the mod using this file, then install the map patch.

A full list of changes introduced in the 3.02 version can be found here. The most important changes are the following:

  • Mission briefing now appears after the first autosave of each map, so that the mission objectives and hints can be reviewed when a map is restarted from the autosave.
  • Added an autosave to the hub when returning from single missions. Players can now rely on the this save to return to the game between sessions.
  • Minor gameplay improvements to Compound, Inferno, Italy, Piranesi, Tides, Battleship, Spirits, Thunder and Stratocorp. Minor efficiencies added to all scripts.
  • Removed option to limit player to 10 weapons (caused problems in several maps including the mission hub due to weapons stripped not being deducted from the player total, so that weapons could be lost but new ones could not be picked up).
  • Replaced option for vector crosshair with a simple fixed crosshair without a reticle.
  • Removed Combine health increase from "Extreme" difficulty setting to make this option more playable. This setting works well when combined with the easier in-game skill options, so that enemies can be killed quickly, but are aggressive and very accurate.
  • Includes fixes from 3.01 patch (Aztec fix).
  • Added a big icon for the new Steam library window.

Barring anything unforseen, this is the final version of the mod. Changes include the following:

-Support for 64 bit systems and non-standard Steam locations.
-Now runs on the Source SDK base, meaning that only Counter-Strike: Source is required.
-UAC support for Windows Vista.
-Streamlined Configuration Utility.
-Updates to the translations csv (get this version if working on a translation).
-Faster loading times and minor bug fixes.

From the comment below it sounds like there may be a problem with the moddb mirrors. Use the torrent file if you have any trouble with the download above:

The file I uploaded matches the MD5 hash posted above and works perfectly, so there must be something wrong with the Moddb mirrors. Their contact form is currently broken, so use the torrent download here: if you encounter any errors with the Moddb download above.

I'd prefer not to use a torrent, and I loved your original CSS SCI FI. I'll be sure to try this out once this MODDB issue gets solved.

I have checked the Moddb mirrors and cannot find a problem

Moddb Server #4 - OK
Moddb Server #5 - OK
Moddb Server #6 - OK

They are all serving exactly the same file and it is identical to the one I uploaded (MD5 verified). Should be no problems.

Thank you fitzroy, I DL'ed it last night with no problems.

I must say that you have done a GREAT job improving the mod. I love how the difficulty ramps up in the campaigns, and it gives you some time to get used to the gameplay. I encounted only 2 crashes during the 6 maps I played so far (will finish the first campaign today). The mission hub room was a brilliant idea, I'm glad you implemented it. The mission briefings give the player a sense of direction and story that was much needed. The gameplay difficulty is perfect for every gamer, and always brings a needed challenge. Hostages respond to commands well, and the game is overall balanced in mission variety and scope. I'm looking forward to any future releases from you.

Sorry, but it must be a local problem, as it seems to be working for everyone else now that the extension problem is fixed. If you can't download it here, you can try mirrors elsewhere: or get the torrent:

fitzroy_doll Dec 21 2009, 8:47am replied:

Ensure that CS:S has been fully downloaded (start it to the menu screen at least once), and verify your local cache:

Then, run the installer again and enter the path to your CS:S directory when prompted (such as c:\program files\steam\SteamApps\[user name]\counter-strike source). If the path is correct the message will not appear. If the path is correct but the message appears anyway, you may safely ignore it, but you should check at the end of the installation that the custom maps have been installed to SteamApps\[user name]\counter-strike source\cstrike\maps

Make sure all the paths are correct at both the first and second stage of installation, as per the post you replied to.

Please also note that this mod will not function with pirated non-steam versions of CS:S.

fitzroy_doll Jun 9 2010, 1:09pm replied:

It runs on the SDK base and uses resources from CS:S, so the engine is there from some other game you own, but you are missing all the resources. You'll find that you don't have the textures, models and half of the maps.

As the installer makes clear, do not run this mod unless you have Counter-Strike: Source installed.

fitzroy_doll please help me. Now when I try to load it. The game starts, I see the valve logo, then I see only a glimpse of the title screen, before it shuts down and gives me a message the only part of which I can understand is "cache needs repair" I tried several differant things ranging from restarting my computer, to actually uninstalling all of the mod and deleting every file and reinstalling it. nothing worked.

You need to validate your cache.

Validate for the SDK base
Validate for CS:S

They are completely separate and all users may safely install and play both.

After you install this mod, you will have 24 new custom Counter-Strike: Source maps in your cstrike directory, which you can play online or against bots as normal.

Rating: 7/10

Pros: Awesome mechanics
A good challenge
CSS Maps
Cons: Crashes Frequently
Sprint is linked with bullettime
Can't Return to hub

Info: The kick is REALLY overpowered, but does barely anything to physics, crashes on the first zombie level (can't proceed, help me with that please). Overall, it's a pretty fun mod.
