STEP ~ 1 MAKE SURE YOU HAVE PODCAT'S TFH EXE ! ! ! You can find this on the paradox HOI3 forum once you have registered your HOI3 base game.(the expansions alone are not enough). Overwrite the vanilla TFH exe with podcats. STEP ~ 2 Place the 5.01 installer in the main HOI3 directory (With all the vanilla exe files) Needs a clean install of TFH 4.02 - so remove any old BICE folders. Not save game compatiable.

Hey guys, something other people might have noticed too, but its something that keeps bugging me throughout the game.

Certain techs do not give a noticification when upgraded/completed, and others do. I have both the research things in message settings on, but it doesnt pop up, and it's a annoyance to go search which tech is done everytime i hear the notification sound.

Could you please fix this?

its a game engine bug which we have not managed to track down the cause of. There are a few theories that it is related to the amount of tech levels available in a tech and / or the amount of units affected by the tech. In either case the pro's out weigh the con's.

How battle commander exactly works?
And in the old version the fort of Moscow made me crazy...
I used Super Heavy Artillery to attack but I still got a -1xx% fort modifier... How to deal with fort?

Add the battle commander to an elite division to take advantage of the BC's terrain bonuses and org/ morale increase. Its basically a force multiplier.
Moscow is a high level fortress urban capital, so expect a long and costly siege. You will have to wear the defenders down via attrition. Use infantry with engineers, assault guns, commandos, super heavy artillery and anything else you have available with high urban and fort terrain bonsues. Keep rotating units into and out of the battle. It might take months of continuous combat to wear the defenders down.

you will have to contact paradox. I have nomore connection with paradox then you. Perhaps message a moderator. From what I have heard it can take a short while for the registration to be processed.

Hello!!

I have the Steam version of the game and the game works very well in the Vannila version. But when I start the Black Ice mod, in the starting loading screen, the game crashes...
Is there something that I should do?

are you using podcat's TFH exe ? Also try copying the game files and pasting them outside of steam and the programs drive. Install the mod there.

I would want to know more about air combat
I always upgrade my air tech (including the doctrine) as Germany
But I always get pwned by the UK
I group 4 interceptors and 2 ground attack fighters into one division
while the UK only uses 3 interceptors and defeats my division(we fight on the sky of France region)
What is the key factor of winning air combat?

the RAF does get Their finest hour modifier once France falls for a couple of years. This gives the RAF a bonus in air combat. However there are also bonuses for aircraft operating close to their airbase. On top of this are the combat difficulty level modifier. 30% of you play normal level.
To avoid it you either have to focus a lot on doctrines which increase air intercept mission modifiers or use brute force numbers of aircraft.

Could I get some advice on how to install the latest Mac version of this mod? I have the HOI III collection from the App Store and thus I can't unzip directly into the contents folder. When I put the tfh folder in the the tfh/mod folder the launcher doesn't recognize it.

Just figured it out! The Black Ice folder and .mod file just need to be in the tfh/mod folder. Somehow I had moved one and not the other. Can't wait to play the newest edition, this is a fantastic mod!

I'm playing with Japan and early Soviet DOW of Germany happened again. Germany will fall in 1942, please fix this problem and give us a another Hotfix and thanks again for awesome game, You guys deserve to be a one of the producers of Hearts of Iron 5.

what version of the mod are you playing ? What is your checksum ? The early DOW issue was fixed. However there is a chance war can break out if the Romanians refuse the give Bessarabia to the soviets, and Romania is the axis. This is very rare though and is wad if it does occur.

My game went haywire on this V:
Playing USA doing everything historically, in 1939 Germany annexed Poland so Soviets didn't get a cut. In May 1940 USSR declared war on Axis Romania I checked Diplomacy screen and saw USSR at war with Allies and Axis now, global chaos.

Hello, thank you for this great mod. I have a question. As soon as I launch BE v5.01 a file named B2E.exe is appearing in my temp folder which is being flagged as Trojan. This file is not part of the black ice installation but is being generated by running the BE launcher.
Can you please explain its purpose? Thanks again.

must be something on your end as there are no reports of viruses or Trojans in the BICE download. Besides its hosted here on modDB so unless they have a virus ? Best to do a full virus/malware scan of your computer.

Carried from the 4.x version, some tech tabs seem to overlap with each other. For example, I see the Industry tech in nation tab and in one air related tech tab, one of the researches is right below the start/pause date button. Finaly, I can't find the Education research anywhere so I guess that perhaps some researches are missing altogether. I'm using highest resolution, if that narrows it down any.

I had a similar problem in previous versions and it was an install conflict issue. Try deleting the blackice folder and the blackice folder in Documents and re-install the mod.
For me, I ended up re-installing hoi3 and the mod from scratch.

5.01 is not compatible with 4.x version. You need to remove any old BICe files including the launcher and files in the user/ documents folders. Otherwise you will get conflicting files and legacy files messing with the install.

Why the file "Black ICE by Panzeroo.exe" is starting a temporary file called "b2e.exe" which is deleted after termination of "Black ICE by Panzeroo.exe"? Looks not very trusty!

And where can I find the LAA Fix from PODCAT? The attachment at the paradox forum is invalid! Maybe upload it on a different server....

that's the batch2exe program that we use in the installer. Podcat's TFH exe is a paradox HOI3 tech support update. Its available on the HOI3 forum and can be accessed once you have registered your base HOI3 game.

Hello, I am experiencing a small bug. Case Anton decision isn't available for Germany, and Torch wasn't fired. Its now 1943. Please fix, otherwise everything is fine.

Operation Torch won't trigger if you defeat the Allies in North Africa. If Vichy isn't attacked by the Allies then Case Anton won't fire either.

there are so many mistakes along the tech tree. let me try to name them all:

- assault guns are not possible to get before 1941, then level 2 is available at like 1939 or 1940. Upgrading assault gun level 2-10 does nothing.
- Nukes can only be researched one time, wtf this was a huge disappointment.
- Two engine/four engine aircraft armament cannot be upgraded past beyond 8 and 10 respectively
- Single engine aircraft armament cannot be upgraded past 9
- Small/medium fuel tank cannot be upgraded past 8
- Large fuel tank cannot be upgraded past 5
- Twin engine airframe cannot be upgraded past 7

Most of these are not a big deal but the nukes only to level 1 is a HUGE disappointment after spending 1936-1944 getting ready and committing to nuclear research for -10% IC...

Other than those a great release. Another thing you might want to look it as that as the Soviet Union, you can attack all the neutral countries around you right before the peace with the Allies event when the Soviets invade Poland and the Allies won't care if you take Afghanistan, Xinjiang, Persia and Finland..later in the game after I defeated the Germans I continued this with almost every remaining neutral country and they still didn't attack. I think this is a glitch or something.

Otherwise keep up the good work!

the assault gun bug has been fixed for the next update.
will take a look into Nukes, this has not yet been reported.
In regards to the air techs, many of these are only set up for the ww2 period, ie not beyond 1946. The post ww2 air techs and also the way in which jet aircraft kick in has not yet been worked on.

You need to have 20,000 supplies available for the event to trigger.
German AI receives the Yugoslavian Grenz when Germany goes to war. The event occurs upon the DOW by either side.

I've found a bug, don't know if its only related to the mod or applies to the vanilla game too. Playing as Italy you get some free Units after the end of the spanish civil war, starting with 0% strength. At a certain point the Units don't reinforce anymore, so you have interceptors with only 9% strength or destroyers with 12% strength. Found the same thing for units damaged in combat. To my knowledge this only applies to aircraft and ships.

try moving the aircraft to an airfield with only them on it and make sure the airfield is large enough to support them. Do you have enough IC allocated to reinforcements and enough MP available ?

1. It depends on what you mean by being more difficult. It is difficult terrain and the Greeks get some assistance from the Allies. So you need to use the right units in the right terrain. Weather and supply will also cause you problems.

2.Germany gets an event which gains the core in Poland, though it can fire much later depending on how often you start a save game - this will reset any events which are waiting to trigger to the following month. That can accumulate into many months later then usual.

3.The German AI will invade Yugoslavia much earlier then they historically did. The main reason is that otherwise the AI tends to leave moving its invading units out of Greece to Barbarossa. So the Greek campaign has to be finished long before Barbarossa fires.

4. There is a small chance that both Slovakia and Siam are not annexed and are puppeted instead. A player can choose either option of course.

5. Not that I recall.

7. There is the default difficulty switch before starting a game and the BlackICE difficulty switch during the start of the game. What should I pick for both of them? Should I leave the default difficulty switch as normal or switch it to hard like the BlackICE difficulty switch.

1. This is the Italian Army High Command, similar to the German OKH or the Soviet STAVKA. Its not good to have it destroyed.

2. There is the Soviet annex of Romanian land in Bessarbia. This occurs in 1940. Romanian annex of the Soviets is limited by what the Germans grant them.

3 and 4 and 5 . Not in standard BICE - there are a number of submods which might add these in ?

6. Its bets to keep them out of battle. If you lose them most will trigger a nasty leader loss event which could cost you the war. At a pinch though these units will enhance the morale, organisation and defensiveness of any division they are attached to. So they can be useful in a siege type battle.

7. The mod is based around HOI3 Normal/ BICE Normal settings. Bearing in mind that HOI3 game doesn't allow any modifiers under the normal setting ( some sort of hardcoded setting we can't change) so Normal BICE has to allow for both settings in one.

8. Its thanks to a lot of hard work I agree, and a lot of different people have contributed, not even counting the original ICE mod which BICE builds upon.
