I just created a folder on the FTP site and have put some upgraded ships in it.  They are ships that I consider finished.  They include the HeavyLineship1, LightBrig1, NL_Amsterdam, and the PO_Fleut50.

I already posted the Amsterdam at Piratesahoy! but have since tweaked it some more.  The HeavyLineship1 is a class 2 pinnace that now has more rigging and no fals.  It gets good fps for a large ship.  The LightBrig1 now has ropes going to all the sails.  The PO_Fleut50 now has much larger sails and many more ropes in its rigging.

I was holding these because it was too close to the release date for the ship pack and patch 6, but with Piratesahoy! being down.........

Could you add a link for the FTP in your post Miklkit? And...erm if it is ok to, the details needed to access it(or someone PM them to me), i've forgotten! I have some music/sound effects that Legendary_Spider might find useful.

Hoo boy.   When I tried to install the FTP stuff over a year ago it was an awful experience.  I will endeavor to make this work.

First you need FTP Commander.  It is freeware and a quick search should find it.

Then you need information that I'm not comfortable posting in the open.  Will attempt PMs.

The links to new FTP files do not work at the moment, so you must use a program like FTP Commander to download any new stuff from there. That issue was the subject of the PM I had sent to Keith last week...

I just sent 2 PMs.  Let's see if this works.  :paranoid:

The FTP worked fine for me with FTP Commander today.

Just to say i got a PM from Miklkit, so will give it a bash - i worked it out last time, so fingers crossed.

@Legendary_Spider, i ripped a bunch of music of 'carribbean' theme from another game(you just can't find those music files anywhere) and they may be interesting for you, if the files are not too big(2x20 min long MP3 format), but i also have a handfull of smaller tracks with a sea theme, as in sounds of waves on shore in the background etc. I'll post my thoughts on the files in terms of possible usage within the game along with the music files, if i can get on the 'ftp'.

FTP is working.

@BlackBart,  Holy hell!  two 20 minute tracks?  Is that continuous or what?

May 28 2011, 3:25pm Anchor

recorded continous, but each 20min(approx) recording contains about 5 or 6 individual tracks, all the details will be in the 'Black Bart>NewPotCtracks' folder, also included is a small txt file explaining where the music comes from. I used a little gadget called an 'Ultra Disk', which allows simply from 'sound out'(via headphones jack) one click recording of music playing through you PC speakers. Anyway i have those two big tracks and some smaller ones, see if you can find anything useful.

AARRGGHH!!
After a week of working on those sails, I was casually playing and noticed that the reys(spars) were going right through the middle of the masts of the PO_Fleut50.   So I fixum.  And updated the FleutofWar34G and the NL_Fleut50 while I was at it.  They are all over at the FTP now.  :)

and just to say i've put those 'Jungle' tracks you requested Spider, and also some other tracks you might care to listen over for suitability? I'll update the .txt file as i find and add more tracks etc.

May 29 2011, 9:20am Anchor

I downloaded them, but I can't open them when I go into the FTP Commander folder.  When I'm in FTP Commander, it says the file is there, but when I go to the folder directly, it's not.  :/  Anyone know how I can fix that?

I just went to the FTP site and got Black Bart's sounds.  Then went to my FTP Commander folder in program files and listened to them.  Who is Julie Fowlis?

Have you tried dling them again?

May 29 2011, 11:33am Anchor

@Miklkit, the info on Julie Fowlis is in the 'NewPotCmusic.txt' file, she is a traditional scottish(gaelic) musician, and her and her band have done some great music that might work well in the Taverns(to go alongside what we already have). Anyway thats for Spider to work out in relation to his work on all the sound and music tracks.

@Legendary_Spider, i can see them on the 'ftp' side, so they are there. Not sure why you can't get them? You have downloaded them from the 'ftp' to a folder on your PC right? other than that not sure why you won't be able to open them etc, as Miklkit says, maybe they didn't download right(keep in mind those two 20min tracks will take a long while to download!). You got the 'Jungle' folder you needed right?

I put the big sails on the class 6 fleuts and put them on the FTP.  I looked at them in game and they seem to be good, but for some reason it is taking a loooong time for PotC to load now. O_o  Now I need someone else to check on what I have done to cause the extremely long loading time.

Where is Armada?

Armada is on holiday in France.

Does PotC take a long time to load in a scene that involves one of those fleuts? Or is it always a long time now? Check your error logs.

Loading the game takes a very long time.   First there is a wait until the cannonball blasts off.   Then there is a longer wait at the next screen.  Then there is a veery looong wait while loading the game.   Once in, it plays normally.

This is an old game that has lasted far longer than normal.  I'm up to level 28!  Maybe it is just showing its age.  The install this game is in is also an old one that has lasted some time.  This is not the first game I've played on this install.  So, I'm kinda in uncharted territory here and would like someone to see if it's these ships causing the problem or if it's just an old install.

May 29 2011, 2:21pm Anchor

@BlackBart, It was the Jungle file I was talking about.  I guess I'll try downloading it again.

Ah,  I was wondering where Armada was.  He's always so active.  In France?  Poor thing. hahaha

Belay that request for a tester.  I brought another virgin install up to speed(except for ENS), copied over the "ships" folder, and it loads fast.

I dl'ed "jungle" and the sounds play fine.  I hate that first "birds" wav.

May 29 2011, 4:39pm Anchor

I just needed the JUNGLE (thank you BlackBart btw)  folder because I accidentally deleted my backup one.  Don't worry, I have a much better sounding birds.wav  :)

I think maybe my new sounds aren't working fully with one another is because they're too long.  I'm theorizing that I have to keep them around the same length as the original stock sounds.  I'm gonna try that out now.  Wish me luck.  Thanks again BlackBart.  I'll defeinitely check out that stuff you uploaded. but first I gotta test my theory.

That old install is working ok again.  I deleted the "options" folder and it started loading almost normally again.  But!  The controls kept reverting to that screwed up setup that is buried somewhere.  After redoing the options 4 times I copied the default controls.h from another install, and now it is working like it should.  Call it a learning experience.....

no probs matey :) and yeah keeping the length of track close to the original may well help with the sound 'pacing' and continuity. Many of the games sections are quite small locations, so a big long track that doesn't 'pick up' until the 3rd minute in might not always work. I look forward to hearing the fruits of your efforts, and if you need any files again, and are having an issue with the ftp, let me know.

If you're working with music also, check this: Pyratesahoy.com
I uploaded a LOT of potentially usable piratey or period film music there from my collection.
