Cat-Life for Half-Life is seeking a C++ coder.
Cat-Life, as featured in December's PC Gamer UK, is a Half-Life 1 modification starring a scientist's pet cat. It will be a single player survival gaming experience with six new chapters. In total, Team Cat-Life expects to include more then 30 new maps and a new training course.
This mod has made significant progress. Videos, Screen shots, and news can be found on our ModDB and FPS Banana profiles as well as on the main website at Bwldevelopment.com. Our latest rough estimate puts this project at 69% completed including most of the mapping, design, and sound work. Our last major hurdle is the source code.
Portions of the customized gameplay have been handled with in-game scripting to this point. But the final mod will require edited game source code. Further, testing and additional progress will not be possible without at least some of the custom code.
With all of that said, BWL Development and Team Cat-Life are seeking an experienced C++ coder, especially a coder practiced in editing the GoldSource SDK of the original Half-Life. The SDK is free and includes the basic entity source code.
Applicants for this team position should be able to edit the cat point of view. This is our primary concern at this time. Players should see the world of Cat-Life from a cat's height. That would be only about the height of a human shin-bone at the most... not more then two feet tall.
As such, the coder will be responsible for lowering the player field-of-view to the appropriate level. This effect can be accomplished by player scaling or simply lowering the camera angle. Once this effect is accomplished, the team can begin internal testing.
Additionally, we would prefer to have the standard flashlight replaced. "Dark-Vision" is intended to be similar to night-vision in that it allows the player to see in the dark. The principle goal here is to simulate a cat's natural nocturnal abilities.
We would also like our coder, if possible, to modify jumping, add sprinting/dashing, and similar movement changes to better reflect a cat's agility and speed. However, the cat FOV is our priority.
BiGToM has stated that the team can offer a C++ compiler and simple file share program to help our coder.
This is a free project, so there will not be a "job" involved or expensive software provided. However, Team Cat-Life IS offering a reward for our coder. This reward could be from $10 to $60 US and would be paid via PayPal. The exact dollar value depends on how long recruitment takes, what the coder can do, etc. So act fast and contact BiGToM to discuss the reward in person.
Applicants should contact BiGToM through MSN messanger (sayrken@hotmail.com), by email (sayrken@gmail.com), or through ModDB ( Moddb.com ).
