A replacement for the games' main menu background. Replaces the video ONLY with the intro to the incredible zombie movie, 28 Weeks Later. Inspired by the Metro 2033 trailer mod I saw somewhere and so I thought, this can't be hard to reverse engineer and behold! This "mod"sets a perfect tone if you love the realism and darker side of the game as I do.
Installation:
So, I will try to make this as clear as possible as this is not a standard .vpk file that you can unzip into your addons folder.
1.) Download the .rar file and unzip somewhere safe. I personally have a folder named "FIX L4D2" in MyDocuments. What you should be left with is a .bik file (.bik is a video game specific video format) called l4d2_background01.
2.) You now want to copy and paste this file 4 times in the same folder and rename them in an ascending order. Your folder should now contain these files.
l4d2_background01
l4d2_background02
l4d2_background03
l4d2_background04
l4d2_background05
3.) Go to your actual L4D2 directory and access this location. "Left4Dead2 > left4dead2 > media". Deja Vu, right? There should be 5 files with the same name as the ones you have just downloaded/copied. Cut and paste these to a safe place (Maybe make another folder inside MyDocuments > FIX L4D2 one as I did). You must have 5 of the same .bik file for the video to loop in your menu.
4.) Now copy and paste the ones you have made yourself into the media folder in your L4D2 directory and Boom! As easy as that.
5.) Load your game and the background should be replaced with an epic scene from the movie.
Q&A:
Why is there no audio for the movie?
This is a .bik file which contains visuals only.
Looks cool but standard background music does not fit.
I thought about that and will be working on an audio replacement for the main menu which includes the very memorable 28 Days/Weeks theme - In a house, in a heartbeat synced up to the video, I will release when completed. I saw a Walking Dead audio replacement somewhere that fits nicely which is what I am currently using until I figure out audio. (This is my first "mod" if you can call it that, so bare with me).
It's working and looks cool but I can't see S@#T!
I am currently running with a -ahem ahem- non-steam version of the game, which I had to make a Frankenstein version of by acquiring 3 different versions and pieceing them altogether to make an up to date game including all DLC... It's a tough economy. My versions included one mod in their download which was a "simplified menu" which removed the tiling panels you could scroll through and maximizes your viewing pleasure, I highly recommend finding one to truly appreciate a mod like this.
Where can I preview?
I'm afraid I'm still running with a 32bit, 2.6 GHz processor, 2 GB RAM and a 512MB graphics card. I can't run capture software and my game or my PC throws a hissyfit. However, to watch the video before you download, find the Youtube video titled "28 Weeks Later escape scene (HD & CC)". This mod is literally the visuals for that scene without audio.

I developed this via reverse engineering so thank you Dando[SVK] for giving me the inspiration with his Metro Trailer mod.
The amazing people behind the amazing movie 28 Weeks Later. I do not own any of the materials used in the making of this mod. I am a simple fan that would like to pay homage to a great set of movies and game by creating a different mis-en-scene.
Changelog:
I will update as I make progress. Please feel free to leave feedback, go easy on me, it's my first mod.
Enjoy! :D
I have just logged into my account for the first time in at least a year
and totally forgot about this.
Seeing it at 56 downloads makes me happy. Hope you guys like it. :)
P.S.
I got a steam version now ;)
